Here are my words for IndieWire’s Berlinale DoP review on how the movie was shot.

“The way I see it, the movie revolves around one big scene — the hearing one. A few months prior to shooting, I started reading the script and I was struggling to find a clever way to shoot that scene. There is so much happening; it lasts for 50 minutes; there are six people talking; and the dialogue is super intense and emotional. That’s when I thought about shooting it with three cameras, which might seem silly for a low-budget feature, but we started working around that idea to make it work and that allowed us to shoot that scene with way more freedom — and shoot it quicker than what we had originally planned but, also, with way more time to focus on our lead actress’s, Myriem Akheddiou, performance, as the other two cameras were picking the other characters’ reactions to what she was saying. We would shoot some 30-plus-minute-long takes. I was behind monitors with intercoms and controls on all three cameras’ zooms and iris. The rest of the movie is shot with only one camera. Also, the movie is lit entirely in natural lighting, I only had one Skypanel and we never turned it on.”
